Yummy Papaya Smoothie
This mildly nutty and sweet smoothie is another family favourite of ours. The ripe bananas give this smoothie a nice creamy texture. Ripe bananas also come with some health benefits of their own. The antioxidant levels of a banana increases as it ripens. Very ripe bananas also have anti-cancer properties thanks to the increase in TNF (tumor necrosis factor). This protein causes cancer cells to die. Ripe bananas are higher on the glycemic index so if you are diabetic you may want to swap out the very ripe bananas for green ones.
Hemp hearts are heavy lifters on the energy front. Consume three tablespoons of this each day and within a week you’ll notice an increase in your energy levels. Hemp hearts are also slow to digest making this a good smoothie choice for the morning as it won’t leave you hungry within the hour. Hemp hearts with the almond milk give this smoothie its mild nutty flavour.
Papaya aids in digestion as its high in fiber. It’s also a great source of vitamin C and folate. If you are pregnant or planning to conceive you can increase your folate intake my consuming more papaya.
Blend all ingredients until smooth and enjoy!

- 1 ½ -2 cups of frozen papaya chunks
- 2 very ripe bananas
- 1 organic pear
- 3 tablespoons of hemp hearts
- 1 cup of unsweetened almond milk
